DBR Birthday Contest!

Yay, Sara is giving away books in her first contest for the DBR Birthday Challenge! Sorry Sara, but I'm copying and pasting your post from there. So ignore the I's and think of them as Sara's :)

The first DBR birthday competition I have for you guys is this:The lovely people from Bloomsbury have sent me these four books to use for competition :) I'm jealous, as they look really good and I haven't read them yet. I hope the winners enjoy them!Rules:
You can submit an entry for each book - but only once for each. If you spam entries, only one will be counted, so it's a waste of time :)
To enter, e-mail me at dragonflybookreviews(at)gmail.com with the title of the book you want in the subject and your name and country in the message. Comments don't count, sorry!
This competition is out to people all over the world so you can enter no matter where you live :)
There will be a winner for each book, and they will be picked at random - no bribery :P
No entries will count after the deadline of 31st July 2009.

#1 Shadow Web, by N.M. Browne

Summary from Amazon.co.uk: Jessica Allendon is bored and Googles her name. Weirdly, she finds another girl, same age, same name, also living in London. They arrange to meet. At the designated time and place, Jess sees the girl, shock registering on both their faces as they realise they look identical. They shake hands and in that instant are catapulted into each other's worlds. Jessica finds herself somewhere which looks like the London of 50 years ago, but the year is still 2008. In this parallel London, the history is different, key war memorials are missing, and the Jessica whose life she now inhabits was involved in a dark and sinister conspiracy. Jess must convince everyone she is the same girl, at all costs, if she wants to get back to her London - alive.

#2 Hunted, by N.M. Browne

Summary from Amazon.co.uk: Karen Fox is attacked on her way home from school and left in a coma by her attackers. While she lies in her hospital bed an extraordinary thing happens - her spirit journeys to another world. In this parallel world Karen inhabits the body of a fox and becomes the guide to a young man called Mowl who is caught up in a complex and dangerous mix of politics and religion. A world in which old feuds are long fought over and not easily settled. And Mowl is caught up in this intrigue far more extensively than he could possibly imagine. In this world tribal allegiances hold great power, and religion, politics and old beliefs are in conflict. It is not easy to be neutral. But time is against both Karen and Mowl and their desperate attempts to survive are fought out against the knowledge that animal guides have a very short time to exist. Will Karen the fox survive? Meanwhile Karen Fox's grandmother keeps a 24 hour vigil by her bed holding her hand and willing her to come back. But will she, can she, recover from her coma?

#3 The Spellgrinder's Apprentice, by N.M. Browne

Summary from Amazon.co.uk: An orphaned boy escapes from the terrible dark cellar where he is apprenticed to grind spellstones, stones which can be shaped to wield great magical power. Escaping this shadowy world is punishable by death, but when captured the boy claims a stay of execution under an old and almost fogotten law. If he can reach the coast and flee the country within eight days, he will be free. But the boy's daring escape has also come to the attention of the most powerful man in the land, the Protector, and he believes there must be far more to the boy than his humble spellgrinding background. The Protector is convinced that the boy possesses some skill in earth magic, the magic which the Protector tried to irradicate and replace with the unnatural and unstable spellstone wizardry of his own. If this boy can wield earth magic, then maybe others can too. The boy must be captured at all costs - the Protector must learn what the boy knows, and whether he is the harbinger of the Protector's downfall. The chase begins. The characters are vivid, the world NM Browne creates - the politics, religion, the landscapes are utterly convincing, and the many layers of sophistication to explore, are tied together brilliantly.

#4 The Story of Stone, by N.M. Browne

Summary from Amazon.co.uk: Nela's father is a Findsman, seeking clues to unlock the mysteries of the past. He hears of an eerie place by the side of a lake which could hold the answers he is looking for. Taking Nela and a small group of men, they discover nothing but an unusual stone, but when Nela touches the stone a connection is forged which reveals glimpses of an incredible and disturbing story of a life many many years before. A story of jealousy, power and love, which Nela begins to realise is disturbingly linked to her own. Utterly gripping and incredibly imagined, N. M. Browne has created the most spellbinding world in a mix of myth, fable and fantasy.

-- So, that's your lot. Remember, you can enter wherever you are, and just by sending your name and country to dragonflybookreviews(at)gmail.com, with the book title as the subject. I will randomly pick a winner for each book on 31st July 2009. You can enter for more than one book.Good luck!
