Hey, my loyal readers, wassup :) Today, I got a reply email from the talented author Suzanne Selfors, who agreed to do an interview *thanks Suzanne*! So here it is, my questions, her answers:
1. Where did you get your inspiration for Coffeehouse Angel?
I spend a great deal of time in coffeehouses, writing, and it hit me one day that I'd love to own one. And I thought that I would have loved to work in one, too, when I was in high school And that's when Katrina popped into my head. Originally the book was called Coffeehouse Girl.
2. Are you anything like Katrina- do you have a Closet of Failure, for example?
Oh yes, I'm very much like Katrina. I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life. It took me a long time to realize that writing was my passion. My basement is full of many things I've attempted over the years, without much success--a guitar, fencing equipment, an easel.
3. Did you have a writer's crush on Malcolm? I know I had a reader's crush!
Well, I admit to one thing--I like guys in kilts. I've got this thing about Scotland. We visited there a few years ago and I'm dying to go back.
4. Are you planning on any other books soon?
I have a new middle grade called Smells Like Dog, coming out in 2010. And I'm currently writing my next teen novel which should also be out in 2010.
5. Who was your favorite character?
That's really a difficult thing to pin down. I always have a lot of fun with my secondary characters, because they are usually quirky and funny. I loved creating the old men who hung out in the coffeehouse. They are based on my dad and his buddies, Norwegian fishermen, so they were close to my heart.
6. Who inspired you to write?
Ultimately, my children inspired me to write for kids. My career started with middle grade books. My kids always read my early drafts with me.
Thank you to Suzanne Selfors for agreeing to this interview, and look out for her newest book, Coffeehouse Angel coming in August!
